Dr Lucy Hall

Post-doctoral researcher (2011-2012)

Lucy undertook an MChem degree in Chemistry at Southampton University, which involved a 4th year project in the Brown group. This confirmed her interest in the area of nucleic acid studies and she began her PhD in October 2007. Lucy’s research is in the field of fluorescence, specifically on the development of new fluorescent monomers for incorporation into nucleic acids. Most recently, she has specialised in synthesising a variety of derivatives of Cy-dyes which are attached to DNA through rigid linkers. Applications for fluorescent oligonucleotides are being explored in detail, particularly their use in real-time PCR-based genetic analysis. HyBeacon probes, Taqman probes, Molecular Beacons and Scorpion primers are all being investigated. Lucy started a post-doc in the group in 2011.
