Paper on copper-free click ligation published in ChemComm
The paper ‘Fast copper-free click DNA ligation by the ring-strain promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition reaction’ has been published online in ChemComm. The communication describes the fast (< 1 min) ligation of DNA strands in an alkyne–azide [3+2] cycloaddition reaction, in the absence of copper.
Paper on 2'-Substituted 2-amino-3-methylpyridine ribonucleosides published in MedChemComm
A paper on 2’-Substituted 2-amino-3-methylpyridine ribonucleosides in triplex-forming oligonucleotides has been published in MedChemComm.
The paper describes a new synthesis of the phosphoramidite monomers of 2-amino-3-methyl-5-(2’-O-methyl-beta-D-ribofuranosyl)pyridine (Me-MAP) and its 2-O-methoxyethyl analogue (MOE-MAP). The incorporation of Me-MAP or MOE-MAP into triplex-forming oligonucleotides (TFOs) makes them more resistant to degradation by serum nucleases than dMAP and dC, which is potentially important for in vivo applications.
Research on Chlamydia test highlighted in The Biomedical Scientist
An article in the April 2011 issue of The Biomedical Scientist describes an ultra-rapid Chlamydia test under development in a collaboration between the Brown group, LGC and OptiGene.
The research, which is based on HyBeacon technology developed previously by LGC and the Brown group, aims to develop a test using urine samples within two years.
