Brendan Largey
Brendan completed his undergraduate studies in the University of Edinburgh from 2014-2018 and graduated with a BSc Biological Sciences hons Biotechnology. During his studies he undertook research projects on DNA-based data storage and chromosome organization. After graduating, Brendan was accepted into Oxford University’s Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Program (DTP), a 4-year DPhil course which emphasizes multidiscipline approaches to biological challenges. In his first year, he completed two 3-month rotation projects on methods of circularizing oligonucleotides and T-junction DNA nanostructures with the Brown group and Turberfield group respectively.
After completing his first year in the DTP, Brendan officially joined the Brown group in 2019. His research focuses on applying photoactive nucleosides to improve Cas9-gene editing and mRNA based therapies. During the course of his studies, Brendan also undertook a 3.5 month internship at ATDBio where he purified and quality controlled DNA primers for SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests.
