Thomas Fleming
Tom joined the group in 2012 as an undergraduate at the University of Southampton. Tom spent six months in cancer drug discovery at the Technical University of Munich and then returned to the group in 2015 as a DPhil student through the Synthesis for Biology & Medicine Centre for Doctoral Training programme. Tom’s research is focussed on DNA damage and repair pathways, particularly those that mediate cross-linked damage repair. These repair pathways are implicated in tumourigenesis and in the development of resistance to chemotherapy in several hard-to-treat tumour types. A molecular and mechanistic understanding of this repair machinery, and the development of chemical probes to moderate their activity is, therefore, of utmost clinical importance.
