Dr Tracy Melvin

Since September 2000 Tracy Melvin has been at the University of Southampton and has research interests in the areas of optical microdevices for bioanalysis. The focus of her research is to create technologies to provide the potential to answer bioscience questions, that are difficult or cannot be answered in any other way. This is achieved by developing novel methodology and devices, some of which was originally conceived for optical telecommunications applications. Her research crosses the medical science – microfluidics -optical device interface and includes bionanotechnology methods. Within the first few weeks at Southampton, contact with a broad range of academic staff within the university were made, including Prof. Tom Brown. Collaborative research funding was obtained from the BBSRC to pursue novel technologies suitable for DNA sequence information, which has more recently been focused on epigenetics and cancer detection.
