Jack obtained his MChem from the University of Southampton in 2015. For his third-year research project, he developed the synthesis of a novel disulphide-containing phosphoramidite for the surface-immobilisation of oligonucleotides, under the supervision of Dr Jonathan K Watts. During his Master’s, Jack undertook a six-month research placement in the group of Prof Gonzalo Cosa at McGill University, Montreal, where, in collaboration with the group of Prof. Hanadi Sleiman, he worked on the assembly and single-molecule fluorescence imaging of DNA nanotubes. Jack is currently investigating the effects of pyrimidine derivatives on the structure of DNA, and their potential involvement in epigenetic signalling. Jack is now a post-doctoral researcher in Sir Shankar Balasubramanian’s group at the University of Cambridge.
